Life in our Sixth Form consolidates pupils’ prior study, broadening and developing previous skills and experiences. It builds on their knowledge and understanding and helps raise aspirations and confidence in order to prepare the pupils for a smooth transition into life after school.
The curriculum covers functional skills –Literacy, Numeracy and ICT, independent learning and living skills, PSHE and the world of work. The pupils’ achievements are accredited by OCR, WJEC and Agored; ranging between Pre-Entry to A Level.
Pupils also have the opportunity to attend Cardiff and Vale College for taster vocational courses if appropriate. Pupils have access to a shared gym, sports hall, coffee shop and library. There is also a dedicated Vocational Skills class, aimed at providing the pupils with essential work skills to broaden their future prospects.
Those pupils following a more sensory pathway will have use of a range of specialist rooms including a UV room, Touch Therapy, atmospherics, Holodeck, Virtual Reality and the hydrotherapy pool.
During their time in the Sixth Form pupils will undertake enrichment activities from community participation and enterprise to PE, music and drama. They will carry out either in-school or external work experience / work awareness placements as appropriate and will be able to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
Sixth Formers perform a Summer Show in July. In past years, they have performed Grease, Ye-Ha and The Jungle Book. Sixth Form also have a summer prom which provides the students with a wonderful opportunity to dress up, party and celebrate their achievements with their friends.
