Sophie Batey delivers the dance sessions at Ysgol Y Deri. She is a freelance community dance leader who has a BA (hons) Dance Degree, PGCE. She has many years teaching experience and has delivered dance lessons in many different settings including schools, nurseries, and colleges working with a wide range of ages and abilities.
The sessions that Sophie delivers at Ysgol Y Deri are fun, inclusive and aimed at delivering learning opportunities to pupils of all abilities. Each session focuses on developing skills, promoting creativity, improving confidence and general wellbeing. When necessary a range of sensory, tactile, images and media-rich resources are used in the sessions to stimulate and engage pupils.
Dance gives our pupils another way to express free emotions and encourages their self-confidence.
Every year some pupils will also have the chance to perform at the annual Vale Schools Dance Festival known as 'Best Foot Forward' at Barry Memorial Theatre in the spring term.
