YYD NURSING DEPARTMENT
Our aim is to make your child's time in school happy and comfortable and to do that we work with all the departments in school as members of a multi agency team. We are here to help support your child and ensure their health needs do not prevent them from meeting their potential. Any useful information that you can give us is appreciated. We can always be contacted by phone and we welcome visits. Naturally, any information you share with us will be treated confidentially and will be shared only with other health professionals on a "need to know" basis.
Our physiotherapists are responsible for providing physiotherapy treatment and management at school and home. The staff coordinate orthotic clinics, wheelchair service clinics and liaise with various companies to provide other equipment such as walking frames and standing frames. Clinics such as orthopaedic and muscle are also organised by the team.
PLAY AND CREATIVE ARTS THERAPY
Play and Creative Arts Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses an integrative holistic model validated by Play Therapy UK’s (PTUK) evidence base. It integrates the therapeutic use of a wide range of creative arts media working with unconscious and conscious processes, using both nondirective and directive approaches and integrating research with practice.
At Ysgol Y Deri the occupational therapists work closely with parents, teachers, support staff and other professionals. The holistic aim is for pupils to develop and maintain skills that promote participation in all learning experiences so that they can reach their full potential. The therapists provide a range of interventions, which can be individual, group sessions or programs implemented by school staff.
At YYD Touch Therapy gives pupils opportunities for relaxation, positive communication, empathy and wellbeing and uses all the senses to establish a sense of worth and enjoyment. It also develops the skills of observation, assessment and adaptation in staff.
Ysgol Y Deri has its own dedicated space for music therapy for sessions that run throughout the week. Music therapy uses sound and music to engage and connect with pupils, encouraging development, social communication, emotional expression and cognition, alongside wider aspects of development.
